BDA Moves ahead with Bangalore Peripheral Ring Road

Great News for Bangaloreans!

The much awaited Bangalore Peripheral Ring Road is moving ahead as BDA moves ahead with its final land acquisition notice.

This will lead to the completion of a critical phase of the PRR and move sooner so that the citizens can have a fully functional Peripheral Ring Road.

The preliminary notification was released in 2020 and focused on acquiring around 750 acres of land. The major part of the works are already getting ready and this acquisition will begin at the completion of the most critical phase.

What does the Peripheral Ring Road or Bangalore Business Corridor Aim to Achieve?

The Peripheral Ring Road or Bangalore Business Corridor project is designed to encircle Bengaluru, creating a 73.04 km-long corridor that will connect key arterial roads, including Hosur Road and Tumakuru Road.

The Peripheral Ring Road will no doubt change the whole face of Bangalore, by reducing the traffic congestion by diverting the heavy vehicles travel around the the city centres where most of the choke points are located in.

The roadway will connect 10 major junctions with 100 minor intersections alongside 16 strategic flyovers including the famed Whitefield Road, Channasandra Road Hesarghatta Road, Old Madras Road and Hosur Road, among others.

It will also connect a roadway nexus of 10 overpasses and 12 underpasses, and the plans also shown cloverfield overbridges, greenfield expressways, bridges over Chikkatogur Lake, Gunjur Lake, and Jarakabande Lake etc

The Project will cover

1) 65.95 km between Hosur Road and Tumakuru Road

2) 3.4 km near Madanayakanahalli

3) 4.08 km near Hebbagodi

Role of BDA

As mentioned above, to construct the 73.04 km PRR BDA will acquire 2,560 acres of land.

And as a relief to the land owners, accordingly, the Karnataka government has decided to compensate the same on “a par with the 2013 Land Acquisition Act” around 8 Cr per acre. This revival plan gives a high hope for PRR. Originally the estimation came around Rs 14,000 also including the Rs 8000 Cr for land acquisition. Now the project estimation has risen or revised to Rs 27,000 Cr and Rs 21,000 for land acquisition.
