MHADA - An Overview

Just as the name suggests, MHADA is a statutory regulatory body under the 1976 Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Act.

Presently, it coordinates and regulates the activities of housing boards across the state, such as Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Nashik, Konkan, Aurangabad, and Amaravati. The housing development body, as mentioned, was established in 1976 and was formed on 5 December 1977.

Objectives of MHADA

Maharashtra Housing & Area Development Authority(MHADA) is responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing buildings under their possession. These include residential tenements, commercial complexes/buildings, educational institutions, hospitals, etc.

MHADA is constituted with a view to providing affordable housing and other facilities for economically weaker sections of society by taking over land from Government and Government undertakings as well as private owners.

Today MHADA has more than 3 million houses across Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai region. In addition to this, a rental housing scheme for low-income groups on JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust) land at Mahul in Mumbai and Ulwe, Dronagiri in Navi Mumbai.

  • Provide a no-objection certificate for a mortgage.

  • Offering an attested copy of the file.

Upcoming MHADA Lottery 2023

Maharashtra Housing & Area Development Authority has announced MHADA Lottery 2023, in which over 5300 houses will be given away. More than 1000 homes will be sold under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana(PMAY), where affordable properties are offered for lower and middle income residents. Thana, Vasai and Virar are some of the satellite towns in Mumbai that are participating in MHADA Lottery 2023.

The result of MHADA Lottery 2023 will be announced on December 13, 2023. One can visit Lottery.mhada.gov.in to avail more details and register on the MHADA Lottery 2023. The MHADA Lottery is a well-known housing lottery program in Maharashtra that offers affordable housing options.
